World War I VeteransWorld War I ranks second only to World War II as the most bloody and most costly war in modern history. It began with the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary on Sunday, 28 June 1914, and ended with an armistice on 11 Novembre 1918. The United States tried to remain neutral in the early years of World War I, but declared war on Germany on 6 April 1917. American troops began landing in France on 26 June 1917 and were quickly brought up to the front. By the time of the armistice the following year, the American losses were 116,516 dead and 204,002 wounded. Following are the descendants of Robert Kay known to have served.
