In 1853, Rev James Kay's youngest daughter, Jane Kay [66], and her husband, John B. Clinkscales, left South Carolina and moved to Smith County, Texas. Four of Rev. James Kay's sons, Stephen Dekater Kay, Francis Lemuel Kay, Reason Wesley Kay, and Robert Marshall Kay, made the same move by 1856. These five children of Rev. James Kay [12] established a stronghold for the Kay family in the Smith County, TX area where some of their descendants remain today.
